We at Tide Talk have been telling you for a long time now - if Rhode Island go down in the match, you might as well turn it off right then and there. You could've saved yourself 82+ minutes - you already knew the result. For almost two years now, the chances of Rhode Island FC recovering even a single point from a losing position are almost non-existent. Another way you could've saved the full 90 minutes based on the likely result: There are only six teams in the entire league who have picked up fewer points on the road than Rhode Island FC. We've lost more than twice as many games on the road as we've won this season. We haven't drawn at all in 10 away matches. The 2024 and 2025 mantra and identities of "Never Say Die" and "Rhode Warriors" have been almost entirely absent for quite some time now. Despite my frustrations, I didn't think it was a particularly bad performance - and it came against pretty tough Western Conference competition. For most of the first half I thought we looked likely to equalize, and then the train kind of came off the tracks with the forced attacking substitutions in the second half. [2026 Season Player Ratings](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTifTST87BhG9EieIi8uMdGPoZjyS7EFwgjBCOnuhbcKGaSl4nVx5oCh5NPWrKRuw4a3SjJxRU%5FzcoQ/pubhtml?gid=2031277514&single=true&ref=tidetalkri.com) ## Rhode Island FC Player Ratings: #### Koke Vegas (GK) - 6/10 Koke made three decent saves - including a low, diving save (nice to see him comfortably stop one of these, for the first time in what feels like awhile), and a solid position save on a dangerous headed opportunity for Tulsa. #### Aldair Sanchez (D) - 5/10 A very pedestrian performance from Aldair. He's usually in the right place and very rarely makes the wrong decision - but he didn't have much to do in this match, with relatively few attacks coming his way and even fewer building up on his side. #### Frank Nodarse (D) - 6/10 A strong defensive game with a couple of very crucial defensive interventions both in first half stoppage time **and** second half stoppage time on Logan Dorsey. Thank goodness for the second one, because it really would've bothered me if Dorsey scored against us. Of course, Frank does his best traffic cone impression on FC Tulsa's opening (and decisive) goal. He gets absolutely passed around, but in fairness to Frank... it's very uncommon to see the ball getting bounced around like that at this level. Genuinely sensational stuff from FC Tulsa to create that goal. #### Grant Stoneman (D) - 5/10 Perfectly fine night for Stoneman as well - he wasn't asked to do an incredible amount of defending, considering FC Tulsa led the match for 82 minutes. Stoneman nearly equalized in the 82nd minute with a shot off of his ... shoulder? #### Nick Scardina (D) - 5/10 A slightly underwhelming showing for Scardina, at least relative to the high standard he's set for himself. He had some good moments in the attacking third - including some good link up early with Pity Rodriguez on the right, and a chance of his own that Scardina HAD to shoot, and opted to pass instead (and not for the first time). Worst of all, in a game where there was relatively little defending to do for Rhode Island, Scardina was exposed once or twice and I thought even caught slightly out of position - having drifted too far centrally while defending. #### Hugo Bacharach (MF) - 6/10 Hugo was certainly a bright spot from a disappointing result. Most of our central build-up ran through Hugo, as he led all players with a ridiculous 20 passes into the final third. Not only was he breaking lines with his ball-carrying and distribution, but he also matched Frank Nodarse for the joint-most defensive contributions on the team (7). #### Eric Klein (MF) - 5/10 I can definitely see the potential with Klein, even if we haven't quite seen the best of him yet relatively early into [his loan to Rhode Island](https://tidetalkri.com/rhode-island-fc-announce-the-signing-of-eric-klein-on-loan-from-the-new-england-revolution/). He had some good, metronomic passing sequences in the midfield working with Hugo Bacharach and the central defenders. I mentioned last week, and will mention again, his passing range and willingness to play a switch. I also think he is composed on the ball and receives it well under pressure. He reminds me a lot of Matthew Corcoran. While I don't really love this type of move for the team, as there's really no long term benefit or reward for us at all - I won't hold that against the player. #### Amos Shapiro-Thompson (MF) - 5/10 I've never loved the idea of playing Amos as the number 10, but it kind of clicked for me tonight. After he created a goal for Leo Afonso last week with his pressing in the attacking third, we saw a lot more of that tonight with Amos playing higher up the pitch. It led to seven ball recoveries for Amos, with a handful of those coming in relatively dangerous positions. There were some overcooked passes attempting to unlock the Tulsa defense, but there was also some solid, progressive play that we don't always get to see from Amos. The set-piece delivery was a bit of a mixed bag, but did lead to a couple of decent opportunities. #### Jojea Kwizera (F) - 5/10 Kwizera started on the left for the first 15 minutes or so and offered absolutely nothing. With his very first touch after switching to the right, he played an incisive through ball to the top of the 18 that leads to a great scoring chance. He followed this up with a terrible touch on a cutback cross from Pity that wasted a golden opportunity, but then a couple of his signature cut-inside, curling left-footed shots that really tested the Tulsa keeper. For nearly every frustrating moment from Kwizera, he would match it with a moment of real menace. Then, in the 58th minute, we took away all of that threat by moving him to left back to make room for other (frankly, unproven and less dangerous) attacking players. #### Leo Afonso (F) - 3/10 For as much as we talked ourselves into Leo as the Number 9 after last week's win against Monterey Bay, tonight was the exact opposite. He was completely anonymous up there, with just 24 touches and only one shot on target (which came off of a set piece routine). #### Pity Rodriguez (F) - 5/10 Pity started the game pretty brightly and was probably our most dangerous attacker for the first 15 minutes or so. He lost most of his steam after moving to the left, and eventually made way for Stas Korzeniowski after just 58 minutes. ### Subs #### Stas Korzeniowski - 5/10 Very excited to see [more of Stas after this promising debut](https://tidetalkri.com/rhode-island-fc-announce-the-signing-of-stas-korzeniowski-on-loan-from-the-philadelphia-union/). We caught some glimpses of his hold-up play, and it honestly looked quite good. Also, in the 75th minute, he used his enormous body to run through multiple Tulsa defenders, stuck with it, and eventually won a corner. I often compare Hugo Bacharach to a gazelle. Stas looked more like a moose (in the best way possible). I'm hoping to see Stas start our next match. #### Osman Foyo - 5/10 I wondered what Foyo's role would be now with Stas Korzeniowski having arrived. Tonight, we saw him come in as a right wing - which I'm hoping is not the plan for the rest of the season. He managed it perfectly fine, but it's clear that's not the best fit for his size and skill set. #### Dwayne Atkinson - 5/10 I didn't see enough from Busy in attack, but have to give him massive credit for winning a couple of aerial duels. For some reason, he's not statistically credited with them, but if you go back and watch the replay there are two consecutive aerial balls that Busy takes a **huge** windup for, and displaces the FC Tulsa player just enough that he comes out with the ball. #### Daniel Rovira - N/A #### Noah Fuson - N/A --- ## Rating Scale: - 1/10 – Abysmal. You might as well have me on the pitch. - 2/10 – Very bad - 3/10 – Bad - 4/10 – Below Average - 5/10 – Average. The player did their job. - 6/10 – Good - 7/10 – Very good - 8/10 – Great - 9/10 – Outstanding - 10/10 – Transcendent performance. Watch out, because Real Madrid may come knocking.
