Rhode Island FC defeated Indy Eleven 1-0 at Tidewater on Wednesday night in a chippy - and very important - Eastern Conference matchup.

The win over Indy was huge for a variety of reasons. The win jumped Rhode Island FC ahead of Indy Eleven in the standings, up to 7th place on 35 points - and with games in hand on all of the teams above. We also evened the head-to-head record, which means our end-of-season tiebreaker with Indy Eleven will be Eastern Conference points per game.

Of equal importance - Rhode Island FC ended a two-game skid and beat a team that we've struggled to beat consistently. We also scored against goalkeeper Eric Dick for the first time, which is a big monkey off of our backs.

And nobody asked, but I have to say it - the attendance was honestly appalling. Where is everyone? There's five or six thousand season ticket holders... where are they all? My dad (who drove two hours to be at this match) said it best - if you're not coming out for a six-pointer with major playoff implications on a beautiful fall night, what are you doing?

## Rhode Island FC Player Ratings:

### Jacob Castro (GK) - 8/10

With Koke serving his red-card suspension from last match, Castro was called upon for his first start of the season in one of the biggest moments. You really could not have asked for much more from Castro, as he recorded five saves on the night - tying Koke's season high.

Such a great moment, and he earned a huge embrace from Khano when the final whistle blew.

### Aldair Sanchez (D) - 6/10

Very solid again in his second consecutive start. Not as flashy as his performance last week against Charleston, but very reliable on both sides of the ball. Aldair had a very good chance to score in the 9th minute after making a great run, which Tsukada picked out with a nifty scooped pass from the top of the box.

### Karifa Yao (D) - 6/10

Karifa is still returning to his pre-injury form, and there are some moments where it shows. But in a lot of ways he looks like his old self - giving 100% for every ball in the Rhode Island FC box, leading the team with 14 defensive actions and a game-high 13 clearances.

### Grant Stoneman (D) - 6/10

Perfectly good performance for Stoneman. There were some defensively shaky moments between him and Karifa - especially in the early going - but they always recovered and got out of it, and grew into the match.

### Frank Nodarse (D) - 7/10

Frank continues to impress week after week, as our defensive Swiss Army Knife, who can play as a central defender, a fullback, or a wingback. Tonight, it was more of the same with Frank as he frustrated Indy Eleven with his 12 defensive contributions, and was also silky smooth on the ball whether he was building through the middle or up the left wing.

Frank's inch-perfect ball up the right wing is what starts the move for Foyo that leads to his assist and Stas's goal.

### Hugo Bacharach (MF) - 7/10

Hugo played like he never missed any time at all, slotting seamlessly back into our midfield. The offense and build up really ran through Hugo - he regularly glided around his man (and/or held off multiple Indy Eleven players) as he progressed the ball up the field and connected it between our defense and our forwards. Hugo also did well to break up play for Indy Eleven in the midfield.

### Zach Herivaux (MF) - 6/10

This may be just the second time this season that we've started a double pivot of Herivaux and Hugo, and it was every bit as good as I would've hoped. Zach was not as busy as Hugo on the night, but made a lot of similar contributions (to a lesser extent).

Herivaux's decision-making around the box is usually pretty good, and adds another dimension to our attack - for example, he played a cross from the corner of the 18-yard box that found Yutara Tsukada pretty much unmarked on the penalty spot.

### Leo Afonso (F) - 6/10

Leo's run of games after returning from injury, starting with the match against Monterey Bay in August, has been his best stretch of the season. He's mostly been asked to play centrally (either as a striker, part of a striker partnership, or as a 10) and I think it's really unlocked something thanks to his work rate off the ball. His pressing may be second only to Amos on the team. There was nothing too noteworthy in this match, but I just really like his energy and effort.

### Yutaro Tsukada (F) - 6/10

It felt like Tsukada was going to take over this game in the first 20 or 30 minutes, and then things really kind of evened out - with Tsukada unable to beat his man or find as much joy down the left as consistently as he was in the early going. Overall, a decent performance with a couple of frustrating moments, like the multiple failed backheel attempts that led to turnovers.

### Stas Korzeniowski (F) - 7/10

Stas really can do a bit of everything. We expect the goals, like the one that he scored tonight - making the finish off Foyo's cutback look easy - but Stas can also hold up the ball very well and even showed off his dribbling and passing range tonight as well.

I would love to see us get Stas more chances in front of goal, because he's proving to be pretty clinical, when he has the service.

### Osman Foyo (F) - 6/10

Like Tsukada, I thought Foyo started out very brightly and dimmed a bit as the match went on. Nonetheless, Foyo still has a very deep bag of tricks and seems to always have something new to try to take on his man down the right wing. He also is always making clever runs, even if the team isn't always picking them out, just yet.

He did very well to run into space in the buildup to his assist. I was sure his last touch had been just a hair too heavy, but he did incredibly well to pick out Stas with a cutback cross from the end line.

### Subs

#### Amos Shapiro-Thompson - 5/10

What an absolute luxury it is to bring Amos Shapiro-Thompson off the bench while hanging on to a one goal lead. I'm not sure there's a player in the world I would want coming on in this situation.

#### Nicholas Scardina - 5/10

Interesting little cameo from Scardina, as he came on and played as a right winger. Unsurprisingly, he looked pretty comfortable there, as it's a position he's played at other stops in his career.

#### Eric Klein - N/A

No rating, but the energy and effort were there tonight for Klein - he went in hard for some balls - and did well to win some of them - after the game got chippy.

#### Nikolai Olivier Pierre - N/A

No rating, but was pleasantly surprised to see the youngster make his debut during a relatively chippy affair.
