The point not only doubles Rhode Island FC’s total number of points recovered after conceding first this season - which I suppose you could kind of call a positive - it also maintains their impressive home record in 2026, having lost just one match at Tidewater. Despite that, it feels like all three points were there for the taking. Of course, Louisville City is the cream of the crop in the USL, despite being a much weaker team this season than previous. In particular, they concede a lot of goals and blow a lot of leads - two scenarios that I would have loved to see us exploit. They also rotated fairly heavily in anticipation of their mid-week USL Cup match. On the other hand, we are a team in transition with the recent departures of JJ Williams and Clay Holstad - and the new pieces like Tsukada, Stas, and Foyo mostly all looked good. [2026 Season Player Ratings](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTifTST87BhG9EieIi8uMdGPoZjyS7EFwgjBCOnuhbcKGaSl4nVx5oCh5NPWrKRuw4a3SjJxRU%5FzcoQ/pubhtml?gid=2031277514&single=true&ref=tidetalkri.com) ## Rhode Island FC Player Ratings: ### Koke Vegas (GK) - 6/10 Koke only had to make one save, but was otherwise quick off of his line to claim passes and crosses that were trending towards being dangerous. ### Frank Nodarse (D) - 7/10 Frank was one constant in a back four that saw a LOT of change throughout the 90 minutes. He started the match as a fullback and was just fine, but grew into the match and put in a typical shift in the second half, after moving to center back (where he’s mostly been playing for the last couple of months). Frank made two absolutely crucial defensive interventions in the second half - once in the 62nd minute, and again in the 90th - I think both of these were likely to have been goals, if not for Frank. ### Karifa Yao (D) - 6/10 There were a few moments in the first 20 minutes where Karifa looked slow and got caught a bit flat-footed in defense. After a few early, shaky moments, I thought Karifa looked like his normal, reliable self for the remainder of the first half. He even pinged a couple of decent balls out wide - a skill that I forgot he had added to his repertoire this season. He made way at half time, which I assume was a planned substitution as he regains his match fitness. ### Grant Stoneman (D) - 6/10 The big question here is, was the ref correct to whistle Stoneman for a handball and give Louisville City FC the penalty kick? I've got to be honest - I thought it was the right decision in realtime, and now that I've seen a replay... I still think it was the right decision. Aside from the PK incident, Stoneman was a defensive anchor - like Frank - across a backline that went through multiple iterations through the course of the game. While his defensive interventions weren't as high profile as Frank's, he racked up a game-high 12 defensive contributions (including seven clearances) in his 89 minutes. ### Nick Scardina (D) - 6/10 Decent showing for Scardina - he was defensively sound and, although he was not bombing down the right wing as often as we've seen in other games, he had some key contributions including a beautiful cross-field switch to Tsukada that led to a shot (one of his 13 passes into the final third), and a shot of his own early in the match that hit the side netting. ### Hugo Bacharach (MF) - 6/10 The midfield was pretty congested against Louisville, so I didn't see a ton of action going in either direction through the middle. There was a lot of side-to-side passing from Hugo, but that was all that was really available to him. Despite the circumstances, he still managed to create two chances (including a near-game-winner for Stas in the second half) and make a few of his signature runs through the midfield. He did lose the ball 18 times - the most of any Rhode Island FC player. ### Amos Shapiro-Thompson (MF) - 5/10 Much like we couldn't (or wouldn't) progress through the midfield, Louisville mostly stayed away as well - leading to a quieter game for Amos. ### Yutaro Tsukada (F) - 6/10 After some questionable decision-making in the first 20 minutes (allegations of having “Dad Brain” were thrown around), Tsukada went on to be our main threat for the rest of the first half. He showed great promise by beating his man multiple times, whipping in several dangerous crosses, and attempting a shot of his own right before half time that barely missed. ### Leo Afonso (F) - 5/10 It was a new look for Leo tonight as he played as the 10 / attacking midfielder behind Stas. Honestly, I’ve been up and down with Leo this season but you’ll hear no complaints from me. He put in a very solid, hard-working shift and created a couple of opportunities with good build up play. He did a good job drifting out wide to be an option for the fullbacks and wing players - it reminded me a bit of what we get from Noah when he's at his best. It wasn't anything exceptional - but this position has been a revolving door for us all season, and Afonso did it as well as anybody else has. He did have a shot late in the first half that very nearly equalized the score. ### Jojea Kwizera (F) - 6/10 Kwizera worked well with Leo Afonso and Nick Scardina to create chances from the right flank. His biggest moment of the night - which came after he moved to left back in the second half - was a move that he started around the halfway line and eventually led to Kwizera cutting back a cross, assisting Stas Korzeniowski on the game-tying goal. Kwizera also was inches away from winning the game, when he rattled the far post with a low shot from outside of the box in the 97th minute. ### Stas Korzeniowski (F) - 7/10 Stas looks like he is just what we needed in order to keep the offense dangerous in the wake of JJ Williams' departure. It's a small sample size, but I actually already think that Stas holds up and distributes the ball better and more consistently than JJ did. He scored the game-tying goal in the 48th minute with a *slightly* lucky deflected shot that loops over the Louisville keeper - but it was excellent work for him to get the shot off in the first place. About four minutes later, he very nearly scored the go-ahead goal on a headed-down ball from Hugo Bacharach. I also love the intensity and passion that Stas plays with. He's certainly going to be a crowd favorite for the rest of this season. ### Subs #### Osman Foyo - 6/10 I loved bringing Foyo on at half time, and thought he really sparked the offense to life. Having Foyo out wide and Stas up top, both chasing down long balls, should be terrifying to opposing defenses. Foyo was doing very well to consistently get through or around his defender and get into space down the right wing. He showed that he can lay it off, cut back and cross, or cut inside and get off shots of his own. Multiple times that I thought he was going to lose the ball, he ended up doing just enough to keep it and move it on to another Rhode Island player. Really, really bright stuff from Foyo. #### Pity Rodriguez - N/A #### Eric Klein - N/A I did think Klein had a positive moment in the 84th minute where he helped to build up through the middle, and eventually the ball fell to his feet at the top of the box. The shot got blocked, but it was a nice sequence. #### Dwayne Atkinson - N/A #### Aldair Sanchez - N/A #### --- ## Rating Scale: - 1/10 – Abysmal. You might as well have me on the pitch. - 2/10 – Very bad - 3/10 – Bad - 4/10 – Below Average - 5/10 – Average. The player did their job. - 6/10 – Good - 7/10 – Very good - 8/10 – Great - 9/10 – Outstanding - 10/10 – Transcendent performance. Watch out, because Real Madrid may come knocking.
