Rhode Island FC dropped two points in the final minute of the final home match of the season, drawing 1-1 with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

I am almost too stunned for words. I felt one way about the match for 93 minutes, and then had it all completely vaporized with one kick in the final minute of second-half stoppage time.

1. [Pittsburgh can't keep getting away with this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3%5FPPdjD6mg&ref=tidetalkri.com).
2. What an absolutely devastating loss for guys like Scardina, Hugo, and Frank who gave it 110% for all 90+ minutes of this match.
3. There goes the dream of hosting a first round home playoff game.
4. Is this the most devastating moment in Tidewater history?

I'm sure some folks - as they often do - will say that the player ratings are too high for a devastating 1-1 draw. Unfortunately, as much as I want to, I can't throw away how impressed I was with the performance despite an absolutely catastrophic loss of focus right before the final whistle.

It's also the second match in a row where we really have to ask questions about this team's ability to finish. Two goals on 44 shots (and over 4.5 xG) across our last two games is... not very good.

## Rhode Island FC Player Ratings:

### Koke Vegas (GK) - 4/10

Zero saves, and we conceded on Pittsburgh's only shot on target - not that there was much Koke could have done about it.

I'm more disappointed with his time management towards the end of the game - as he took a couple of kicks much too quickly for my liking.

### Aldair Sanchez (D) - 6/10

Great hustle, as always, and a strong performance on both sides of the ball. Aldair also led the team with 12 passes into the final third. He played some impressive balls into space for Osman Foyo down the left.

### Frank Nodarse (D) - 7/10

Another great defensive performance for Frank - his decision-making on when to be passive and when to be aggressive was absolutely spot on this evening. He led the team in both defensive contributions (9), and touches. His carrying of the ball was also impressive, as usual.

### Karifa Yao (D) - 6/10

A quieter defensive night than Frank, but an equally crucial part of the impressive team defending that we saw for 93 minutes. Karifa's best moment of the night was a great defensive effort to stop a Pittsburgh chance on his own at the end of the first half.

### Nick Scardina (D) - 6/10

Matt Kerwin predicted Scardina would score back-to-back goals after his game-winner on Wednesday. Multiple times during this match, I thought he was going to be correct. Scardina picked up a lot of good positions throughout the match for himself, and set up his teammates as well.

Crucially, Scardina played the pass into Osman Foyo for the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute. Of course, Foyo did most of the heavy-lifting here - but Scardina looked dangerous down the right all night long.

### Hugo Bacharach (MF) - 6/10

Another night, another dominant midfield performance from Hugo. Starting without his usual hard-working double pivot partner in Amos, it felt like Hugo covered twice as much ground to make up for it - leading all outfield players with eight ball recoveries.

He also won 16 duels - more than twice that of the next highest player in the match (Frank Nodarse with seven). Rhode Island won 65 duels compared to Pittsburgh's 46, and Hugo was a huge part of that.

### Zach Herivaux (MF) - 4/10

To put it bluntly, I just don't think Herivaux has looked sharp since returning to the squad from injury in September. He has not been bad by any means, but he's looked especially hesitant going forward (which I previously believed to be one of his strengths).

Multiple times per game, I'm finding myself throwing my hands up in frustration when he misses an easy pass forward, and/or drives forward with the ball on a counterattack before ultimately slowing it down or passing backwards.

### Noah Fuson (F) - 6/10

Noah hasn't been carrying the team like he did in October 2024, but he's been plenty serviceable. He created three chances playing in the number 10 position - which has been a revolving door all season long. It was nothing to write home about, but just about good enough.

### Osman Foyo (F) - 6/10

I've been an Osman defender since his very first appearance - but I'll admit that even I, after a shaky midweek performance, thought "here we go..." when I saw him line up on the left - a position that we haven't seen him play yet for Rhode Island FC.

Well - it wasn't perfect, but I think Foyo proved a lot of folks wrong tonight. He's always willing to take on his man, and somehow gets into space pretty regularly through a kind of weird combination of pace, technical-but-sometimes-awkward dribbling, and solid creativity.

Of course, he blew the roof off Tidewater with a great (mostly) individual effort to score the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute. Foyo desperately needed this for his confidence, and it was a special moment in the building.

It's an absolute tragedy, and a total disservice to Osman Foyo, that we couldn't hang on to the lead.

### Leo Afonso (F) - 4/10

Leo was not much better or worse than the rest of our attacking players - but the saved penalty is such a tough pill to swallow. He had other chances in front of net, but simply wasn't clinical enough with the finishing.

I don't know what the conversation was between him and Kwizera, but for my money, it 100% had to be Kwizera taking the penalty (as he's 2/2 on in-game PK's for the team).

### Jojea Kwizera (F) - 6/10

Kwizera didn't have the chance to cut inside and take his signature curling shot from the top of the 18-yard box as much tonight as he did against Loudoun - but he had a decent attacking game with what little space Pittsburgh was giving him.

#### Subs

#### Amos Shapiro-Thompson - 5/10

Amos was working like a dog (somehow, even more than usual) for his 23 minutes.

#### Stas Korzeniowski - 4/10

Pretty tough night for Stas, but we were asking him to do a whole lot holding up play all on his own with no one really playing off of him by the late stages of the game. Unfortunately, the hold-up play was pretty poor (including a particularly bad sequence where Koke punted to Stas **much** too quickly and Stas could not make it stick at all, occurring moments before conceding the equalizing goal). Stas also had a golden opportunity to score our second goal of the night, which rolled along the goal line before ringing off the woodwork.

#### Dwayne Atkinson - 5/10

Busy worked hard - especially off the ball - in his first appearance since September 19\. He had a great hustle play around the 80th minute to keep a ball from rolling out for a corner in our half. He also had a great opportunity in front of goal that he sent well over the net.

#### Grant Stoneman - N/A

#### Eric Klein - N/A

No rating for Stoneman or Klein, but man does it suck to bring on an extra defender and a conservative midfielder, and still concede a last-minute equalizer.
