Rhode Island FC have a quick turnaround and are back at home Wednesday night to take on Indy Eleven. It's a huge game as RIFC are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference and only one point behind Indy Eleven in 7th. RIFC have also played one fewer game than Indy. So this is a huge opportunity to make up ground and get away from the bottom of the playoff line.

The two teams met earlier this season and Indy Eleven came away with a 1-0 win. A second half goal from Bruno Rendon was the difference. As for this time around, here's what to look out for:

## **Last Time Out**

RIFC fell 2-0 to the Charleston Battery last Saturday night. Emilio Ycaza scored two second half goals to help give Charleston all three points. I thought RIFC played ok before the first Charleston goal, which came on a penalty. Khano chose to go with a 3-5-2 that had worked against Charleston in the past and the team looked good enough defensively. The issue was a lack of attacking threat. There were options on the bench to add a spark to the attack but things fell apart before anything could materialize. A loss in Charleston isn't the end of the world but coming off a poor performance the week prior against Miami FC makes it look worse.

## **Players to Watch**

### **Jacob Castro (GK)**

- I can't quite believe I'm writing about an RIFC goalkeeper other than Koke Vegas this season but here we are. Koke got a red card late in the second half against Charleston that led to the second goal. He will of course now be out for this one. Up until the card, Koke had played every minute of every game for RIFC this season. Even early on when the team played an amateur side in CD Faialense in the Open Cup. Now we enter a big game with a goalkeeper who none of us know what to expect from. It'll be something to watch for sure

### **Grant Stoneman (CB)**

- Grant is likely to have the captain's armband in Koke's absence when RIFC take the field on Wednesday night. I wrote in the last Prematch Lookout that RIFC would need to rely on Koke's leadership to bounce back from a poor performance against Miami. He looked very good in goal until he got the red card. Grant is the next man up as far as leadership goes and hopefully he can stay on the field for the full 90\. Or at least until Khano makes a sub

### **Hugo Bacharach (MF)**

- Hugo returned to action against Charleston after missing a couple games. He played the entire second half and looked ok. He's a critical part of this team's midfield and he'll need to quickly get back to full fitness

## **Storyline**

### **Last Chance for a Push**

Back to back losses against Miami FC and the Charleston Battery have a lot of the fanbase (myself included) really frustrated. The Miami game in particular should have been a great opportunity to push further up the Eastern Conference standings. Instead, the team is still mired in 8th and a poor run of form could leave the team out of the playoffs entirely. There is still a chance to move up the standings but it has to start Wednesday night. It won't be easy against an Indy Eleven team that has generally played well against RIFC over the past couple of years.

## **Last Time Out**

Indy Eleven lost 2-0 at home against Miami FC this past weekend. First half goals for Rodrigo Da Costa and Mason Tunbridge led Miami to the win. It was the second consecutive loss for Indy after they fell 1-0 to Oakland Roots the week before.

## **Players to Watch**

### **Eric Dick (GK)**

- I had to start with the big man in goal. I'd have to confirm with our resident [stats guy](https://tidetalkri.com/author/tylerhatch/) here at Tide Talk, but I'm fairly certain RIFC have never scored against Eric Dick. That includes 5 games while with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 2024 and 2025, and the meeting in Indy earlier this season

### **Jack Blake (MF)**

- Blake is in his fourth season with Indy Eleven and is having another good year. He has 6 goals and 4 assists this season, putting him second on the team in goal contributions. A lot of Indy Eleven's attack goes through him

### **Bruno Rendon (FW)**

- As I mentioned at the top, Rendon had the lone goal in the 1-0 Indy win over RIFC earlier this season. He also leads the team in goals (9) and goal contributions (12). He was on the bench but did not play against Miami last weekend, so I'd be surprised if he isn't involved here

## **Storyline**

### **Comfort Out of Possession**

I'm kind of reverting back to the old Prematch blogs where I'd talk about a key to the game. But it's all I've got here. Indy Eleven have the lowest average possession in the league at 40.7%. That doesn't bode well for an RIFC team that tends to struggle when they have more of the ball.

## **Prediction**

### **Rhode Island FC 1-1 Indy Eleven**

I find it really hard to predict anything better than a draw here. Games between these two teams are normally close and given how RIFC have looked the last two games, I can't see them having a great performance. I think they'll do just enough to come away with a point and we'll have to keep wondering if things will ever improve.

---

As usual, I'll be back here right after the game to provide my immediate reaction. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and RIFC smash it but I'm not holding my breath. Until then though, as always, UP THE TIDE!
