The two teams last met down in Florida earlier this season and Miami FC came away with a 2-1 win. Arney Rocha and Mathieu Ndongo scored for Miami and Dwayne Atkinson got the lone RIFC goal. Will things go differently this time around? Here's what to know as we head into this one: ![](https://tidetalkri.com/content/images/2026/09/4151-1.jpg) ## **Last Time Out** RIFC come into this one having taken down Sporting Jax 3-0 last weekend. Goals from Tsukada, Korzeniowski, and Kwizera powered the RIFC victory. It was a relatively straightforward occasion as expected. Sporting Jax are at the bottom of the league primarily due to having an awful defense and RIFC took advantage with the three goals. ## **Players to Watch** ### **Karifa Yao (CB)** - Karifa looks to be fully back in the middle of the defense after recently returning from injury. He's a hugely important player in the back line because the team doesn't have anyone else who can play his role as a physical enforcer back there. I'm very happy to see him back ### **Eric Klein (MF)** - I'm singling out the young midfielder because of Hugo Bacharach's absence. The word on the street is that it isn't a major injury for Hugo but I'm going to assume he'll be out again against Miami and hope I get a nice surprise an hour before kickoff. But since I'm assuming he'll be out, I think that puts extra importance on Klein. Khano chose to go with Grant in midfield last week but I'd like to see Klein get the opportunity next to Amos. It's why we brought him in ### **Jojea Kwizera (FW)** - Jojea is likely headed to Rwanda after this game to join up with his national team for some AFCON qualifiers. Hopefully he can make a big impact before departs ## **Storyline** ### **Consistent Results to Climb the Table** RIFC are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference but have at least one game in hand on every team above them. That provides a great opportunity to move up the table and get a more favorable playoff matchup. But in order to do so, we need to see more consistent results. The last time RIFC won back-to-back games was July 25th when they beat Pittsburgh 1-0 after beating Hartford 1-0 the week before. Since then, the results have been: L,W,L,W,L,D,W. This matchup with Miami is a great opportunity to get a second win in as many weeks and the team really needs to make it happen. ![](https://tidetalkri.com/content/images/2026/09/4191.png) ## **Last Time Out** Miami FC drew 1-1 at Brooklyn last Saturday. Arney Rocha scored in the 70th minute to put Miami 1-0 up but they conceded 10 minutes later via an own goal. ## **Players to Watch** ### **Eloy Room (GK)** - The 37-year-old goalkeeper has plenty of experience, having played in Europe and in MLS over the years. Most impressively, he was Curaçao's goalkeeper at the World Cup this summer. The defense in front of him in Miami has been poor and he'll need to be at his best on Saturday to give his team a chance ### **Arney Rocha (FW)** - Rocha currently leads the team in goals with 6, to go along with 3 assists. He's been Miami's most consistent attacker this season and will certainly be one to keep an eye on ### **Denilson Milanes (FW)** - Milanes is a fascinating story. He defected from Cuba while on national team duty in 2023, along with a few other players. He had since been looking for an opportunity and earlier this year, he was playing in the [Baller League for Druski's team](https://ballerleague.us/en/teams/club-360?ref=tidetalkri.com). I can't believe I just wrote that sentence out. He then signed with Miami FC and made his first appearance on August 1st. Milanes doesn't have any goal contributions yet but he's been consistently getting minutes and just went his first full 90 last week ## **Storyline** ### **Circling the Drain** The start of the 2026 season provided some new hope for Miami FC. The flashy signings of Eloy Room and Jurgen Locadia (striker now with Tampa Bay) along with some good under the radar additions had the team looking like a potential playoff team. That would have been a huge step up. But the team has been on a big downward trajectory over the last couple months. Miami FC last won a game on July 15th when they took down Indy Eleven 2-0\. Since then, their record is: L,L,D,L,L,L,L,D,D. Those results have the team in 9th in the Eastern Conference but they're 8 points behind RIFC in 8th. If things don't turn around quickly, they'll end up out of the playoffs yet again. --- ## **Prediction** ### **Rhode Island FC 3-0 Miami FC** I can't see this going any other way than an RIFC win. The attack will be too much for Miami to handle.
