We've arrived at the final (regular season 🤞) game at Centreville Bank Stadium in 2026\. RIFC are set to host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Saturday on fan appreciation night. The teams last played in late July in Pittsburgh when a JJ Williams goal helped RIFC on their way to a 1-0 win. As for Saturday, it's a massive game for both teams as they seek 4th place in the Eastern Conference and a guaranteed home playoff game. More on seeding scenarios later. For now, here's what to know about each team heading into this one:

## **Last Time Out**

It was a big win for RIFC on Wednesday night as they took down Loudoun United 1-0 and clinched their spot in the playoffs. An early goal from Nick Scardina was all RIFC needed, though it was a pretty nerve-racking finish as we went a man down and couldn't find another goal to put the game to bed. Regardless, the guys got the job done and at this point in the season that's all we can ask for. What was frustrating though was Yutaro Tsukada getting sent off for getting two yellow cards, both in the second half. He therefore won't be available for this one and Khano Smith has a decision to make in regards to who starts over Yutaro on the left wing.

## **Players to Watch**

### **Frank Nodarse (DF)**

- Frank has had an awesome 2026\. His consistency has been key and he continued playing well on Wednesday against Loudoun. He helped shut down a striker who had been on fire over the past month and secure a clean sheet. Frank will need to maintain this level Saturday as well as in the playoffs if the team wants to go on a run

### **Amos Shapiro-Thompson (MF)**

- Amos's relentless energy was on full display last time out. Having Hugo next to him in the double pivot certainly helped. The team looks so much better when they're both clicking and hopefully that continues

### **Noah Fuson (FW)**

- It's been a strange season for Noah. He's never really nailed down a spot in this team and at times was left out of the squad entirely. But I think he's probably the best option right now for the number 10 role. I'd like to see him out there on Saturday

## **Storyline**

### **Playoff Seeding and Tiebreaker Headache**

It's that time of year again: Tiebreaker SZN. It feels like only yesterday that I was losing my mind over why the league wouldn't announce RIFC had qualified for the 2024 playoffs when there was no possible scenario in which we wouldn't make it in heading into the final weekend. This time around, it's less of a headache but still frustrating. Just know that we here at Tide Talk like to keep league operations on their toes. I'm sure they love when we reach out.

All that you actually need to know is that a win against Pittsburgh and then Hartford the following weekend would put RIFC in a great place to finish fourth and get that coveted home playoff game. The only team that could catch RIFC for fourth in that scenario is Louisville City because they have three games left instead of two. In order to do so, they'd need to win all three of their games. Dropping any points would mean RIFC finish ahead of them. So long story short, we want Louisville to draw at least one of their remaining games and RIFC to of course win the next two. That is the simplest scenario, which surely means by the final whistle on Saturday night, I'll be trying to figure out other tiebreakers. Such is life as an RIFC obsessive.

## **Last Time Out**

The Riverhounds beat Hartford Athletic last Saturday 2-1\. Trevor Amann gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute but Hartford's Michee Ngalina equalized in the 41st to send the game into halftime level at 1-1\. Charles Ahl would get the winner for the Riverhounds in the 66th. It was a big win for Pittsburgh in their chase for a home playoff game as it helped them leapfrog a couple teams into 4th.

## **Players to Watch**

### **Owen Mikoy (DF)**

- Mikoy is in his first professional season after having played at the University of Kentucky last year. He slotted into a starting center back role pretty much right from the start of year and has been consistently solid in one of the league's better defenses

### **Charles Ahl (MF)**

- Ahl is Pittsburgh's assists leader this season with 5\. He got his most recent one last time out against Hartford to go along with a goal. The Riverhounds have struggled to score this season yet again, with San Antonio and Brooklyn the only teams who have scored fewer goals. Ahl will need to continue to step up for Pittsburgh on Saturday

### **Trevor Amann (FW)**

- Like Ahl, Amann has been crucial to Pittsburgh's attack. He leads the team in goals with 8\. Without his contribution this season, the Riverhounds attack would be almost non-existent.

## **Storyline**

### **Pushing to Host at FNB**

I've already mentioned pretty much all you need to know about the Riverhounds this year. It's the same old story in Pittsburgh with a team that's tough to score against but struggles to get goals of their own. So with that being said, the focus here is going to be on their quest to get a home playoff game. The Riverhounds have an outside shot at 3rd still but they'd need the Charleston Battery to lose their final two games. The more likely outcome is for them to finish fourth. A win over RIFC would go a long way to getting there but just like us, they'll be watching Louisville City's results.

## **Prediction**

### **Rhode Island FC 1-0 Pittsburgh Riverhounds**

I think this will be a tight game. RIFC have been incredible in home finales with an 8-1 win over Miami FC in 2024 and a 5-0 over the Tampa Bay Rowdies last year. I can't see a similar scoreline here though. I think this goes to halftime 0-0 and RIFC gets a second half winner from an unlikely source. My shot in the dark here is that Frank Nodarse gets the goal from a scramble in the box after a corner, poking it in from close range.

It's hard to believe that Saturday is the final home game of the regular season and possibly of 2026\. I'm looking forward to being there with you all and hopefully watching a huge win. See you all there. UP THE TIDE!
