Rhode Island FC took down Brooklyn FC 3-1 tonight. Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Karifa Yao provided goals in the first half and Nick Scardina got a goal in the second. Malik Pinto scored late in the second half to give Brooklyn a consolation goal. The win for RIFC puts us 5th in the Eastern Conference. Here's my quick take on that we saw tonight in Brooklyn:

## **Presentation**

Before talking about what actually happened on the field, I have to get some grievances out of the way. While the backdrop was awesome with all the lights and the rollercoaster, it wasn't enough to make up for an awful camera angle. I knew what to expect having watched Brooklyn at home before, but those were in games that I didn't really care much about. The low angle plus the net being in the way is a disaster. I can only imagine what you all who went to the game experienced with what was an awful view.

## **Did he mean it?**

I think if you asked Amos, he'd truthfully tell you that he did not mean this as a shot and that he was just trying to redirect the ball back into the box. You can make up your own mind though:

What an awesome goal to score regardless of intent. It was especially good to see the team get an early lead in both an important game and one that was really well attended by the travelling support.

## **Lee Blunder**

I will always have a soft spot for Jackson Lee after the two years he spent with us in RI. And I think Brooklyn has turned out to be a really disappointing landing spot for him with the defense in front of him being so poor and the rotating goalkeepers. But with all that being said, he needed to do better on this Karifa Yao header:

Karifa was completely unmarked there (further evidence of Brooklyn's awful defense) but it was an easy save to make. He was only trying to nod the ball across for the other RIFC players to hopefully get a touch on it. I'm not complaining though as it's always great to see a defender get a goal.

## **Nicky the Fish Sinks Brooklyn**

Just minutes after a Brooklyn goal was (correctly) ruled out for offside, Nicky "the Fish" Scardina put the game away:

What a fantastic goal this was. I loved seeing us win the ball back in that spot and Noah's ball through for Stas. And then the rebound from the Stas shot was simply an offer that Scardina couldn't refuse. Good stuff all around.

---

I thought this would be a comfortable win for RIFC heading into it and that's pretty much exactly what we got. I don't think we can be too impressed with the result given how poor Brooklyn have been this year but I'm definitely thrilled that the team took care of business. We've seen bad performances and results against teams we should beat so I'm happy that wasn't the case tonight.

I'll be back here on Friday to preview RIFC's big trip to Detroit. Before that though, keep an eye out for Player Ratings and a postmatch podcast to further go over this win. I'm not guaranteeing a time for those, as the guys are (hopefully) set to party it up tonight in Brooklyn. UP THE TIDE!
