Rhode Island FC took down Indy Eleven 1-0 to get a massive 3 points. A first half goal from Stas Korzeniowski and a strong defensive performance helped propel RIFC to victory. The win moves RIFC ahead of Indy Eleven and into 7th in the Eastern Conference. We're also now only 4 points out of 4th with at least one game in hand on every team above us. It's a good place to be in so long as the team starts to play their best soccer over the next month and beyond. As for tonight's game though, here are my quick takeaways:

## **Return to the 4-2-3-1**

RIFC went with a 3-5-2 down in Charleston this weekend but went back to the 4-2-3-1 that has been common this season. It looked something like this:

Notably, the change allowed Yutaro Tsukada and Osman Foyo to get back into the starting 11 and play in their preferred positions on either wing. It ended up working out well, especially against an opponent where RIFC were bound to have a lot of the ball.

## **Finally Scoring Past Dick**

After 6 games of not scoring against Eric Dick (5 in Pittsburgh and 1 in Indy), RIFC finally broke through. And it was glorious:

It was great seeing Osman Foyo running down the wing in with some space. We hadn't seen him have a big impact yet but here he made a nice run and good layoff for Stas to bury it.

## **Not a Red?!!**

I am certainly not an expert on the laws of the game or refereeing. But Aodhan Quinn should have been sent off in this one. Hugo Bacharach gave Quinn a good nudge near the touchline and was rightly called for a foul. Quinn got up and proceeded to charge at Hugo, grabbing his shirt and shoving him down. Both players walked away with a yellow. Hugo deserved his but Quinn should've seen red. You can't chase a player down like that in retaliation and get away with just a yellow. It didn't end up mattering in the end but I had to say something about it.

## **Castro Clean Sheet**

What a night for Jacob Castro. I wasn't sure what we were going to get from him after having not seen him all year. But he ended the game with 5 saves and looked comfortable back there. It begs the question of why we didn't see him earlier this year in the cup competitions. Tonight showed he's a capable backup and that's something you always want to have.

---

It was a nice win at Tidewater tonight and the kind of performance and result this team desperately needed. I thought we did well to stifle the Indy Eleven forwards and to close out the game while having more of the ball (59%). Indy tried to play long and go 2v2 with their forwards Henry-Scott and Mesanvi going against Yao and Stoneman. Karifa and Grant did a good job in those situations and had good backup from Frank Nodarse when they needed it.

As for us here at Tide Talk, we'll have Player Ratings tomorrow and maybe a podcast? Keep an eye out on our socials for any updates. I'll be back here Friday to preview the trip to Brooklyn on Saturday. Until then, UP THE TIDE!
