RIFC fell 1-0 to Miami FC in the most frustrating game this season.  And honestly, that’s saying a lot in a season that has been filled with disappointing results so far.  It continues a poor run of form at home, as we only have 2 points from 4 home matches in the league.  That simply isn’t good enough.  As always, here are my main takeaways from this one:

Goals Galore?

In a game marketed as “goals galore” the only team able to put one in the back of the net was Miami FC.  Yet again, I’m writing about a performance where RIFC looked dangerous at times but couldn’t finish.  It was a combination of good goalkeeping from Miami FC’s Bill Hamid and some sloppy play from RIFC in the final third.  I feel that I’ve been very patient and understanding so far this season, knowing that the performances have often been better than the results.  But I feel that we’re at a point where patience is running out.  We’re in the 2nd third of the season now and the results haven’t been good enough.  Something needs to change, and soon.

Shaky in Goal

It absolutely pains me to write this, but this wasn’t a great game from Jackson Lee.  I was really hoping he’d grab the bull by the horns and take his chance with Koke now being out for a few weeks.  But that didn’t happen.  There was a moment where he flat out whiffed on a ball at his feet and gave away a corner.  He also went down and to his right on a ball that went to his left, but luckily he made the save with his foot.  The worst incident though was Miami FC’s goal, which came via this free kick from Sebastian Blanco:

That was a shot that has to be saved.  I’m really hoping this ends up being a one-off and Jackson can come back strong in Louisville on Wednesday, where he made a name for himself last season.

Amos gets it

Amos Shapiro-Thompson won D36 man of the match and he absolutely deserved it.  He was all over the field with his usual energy.  He added some good play going forward, particularly in the first half.  It obviously didn’t lead to any goals, but I appreciate his effort nonetheless.  It was his speech to the crowd after being handed the match paddle that impressed me the most.  Amos made sure to let the fans know that the team knew this wasn’t good enough and promised the results are coming.  He even used some colorful language which honestly was warranted after this result.  In a game that was so frustrating, Amos was the one positive I can take away.

Up Next

It’s a quick turnaround, as RIFC are back at it on Wednesday night in Louisville.  For us at Tide Talk, we’ll be here with a podcast recapping this awful result on Sunday night.  I’m also looking forward to seeing Timmy’s Player Ratings to see if anyone cracks even a 6/10.  I’ll be back with my usual Prematch Lookout to preview Wednesday night’s game.  Until then, as always, UP THE TIDE!

Amos is such a joy to watch. He goes all out on every play. After the final whistle he dropped down to the ground. Legend.
