Hello everyone! God it feels weird to be typing in the Player Ratings template.

With Timmy enjoying as many canned sardines, Super Bochs and pastel de natas as is humanly possible at the moment, I figured it was time that I stop making fun of Timmy’s Player Ratings and take one on the chin myself.

For those who are interested in comparing, here is a document tracking all of Timmy’s player ratings for the season so far.

Rhode Island FC Player Ratings:

Koke Vegas (GK) – 6

Another clean sheet for El Capitan – his 7th in the league this season. While you could argue a higher number here, I actually don’t think Koke had much to do in this one with just two saves on the night. His distribution wasn’t as crisp as we’ve seen it in the past but none of this will matter after three big points and yet another clean sheet.

Karifa Yao (D) – 6

Another strong shift from a key pillar of one of the best defenses in the league. 2/3 tackles won, 6 clearances and 55% of duels won was one of the key reasons why Charleston really never had a sniff at goal in this one.

Hugo Bacharach (D) – 7

Hugo is a wild boy, man. Not only did the large Spaniard put on a shift on defense with 6 clearances, 2 interceptions, 63% of duels won and a tackle on top but he was one of the key contributors to getting our offense ticking. 82% passing accuracy, 1 touch in the opposition box, 2/4 long balls and 3 passes into the final third complete an all around game for Bacharach.

Aime Mabika (D) – 6

Of the three center backs, Aime had the quietest of the three matches, which isn’t a bad thing from a center half. While he didn’t quite put up the counting stats that his counterparts did, Mabika was composed on the ball as always (80% passing accuracy) while winning 75% of his duels.

Jojea Kwizera (MF) – 6

Jojea showed signs of the 2024 vintage which could mean great things for RIFC moving forward. Kwizera showed a lot of attacking intent Saturday night with 5 crosses and 2 dribbles, constantly trying to make something happen. His 1 chance created was the output here but the ingredients are there for more from Jojea.

Matthew Corcoran (MF) – 4

Probably Corcoran’s “worst” game for RIFC since the 19 year old joined The Tide. Tidy as always but struggled to dictate the tempo or put a stamp on this one. This Charleston midfield was always going to be a tough test and his 73% passing accuracy and 43% duels won indicate his struggles there.

Marc Ybarra (MF) – 5

This was a very strange Ybarra game. Least touches of any player who went the full 90, 61% passing accuracy but did a lot of the dirty work in the midfield to try and keep us ticking along with a bit more offense than we typically see out of the former Wolverine. 1 chance created, a shot on target, 7 passes in to the final third, 4 touches in the opposition box and 100% of duels won.

Clay Holstad (MF) – 5

Oh right wing back Clay, I was hoping to never have to write about you. A bit of a square peg in a round hole out there but as always, Clay Holstad got the job done. Was it his best match in an RIFC kit? No, but he was pivotal in key moments like driving into the midfield to create space for the Maxi Rodriguez cross. Imagine that, Clay Holstad doing something good in the midfield.

Maxi Rodriguez (MF/FW) – 7

RIFC’s most clutch player this season stepped up yet again Saturday night. 2 chances created, 1 big chance created and an assist on the night will be the highlight but Maxi put in the hard yards too with 5/8 duels won, 2/2 tackles and three recoveries.

Amos Shapiro-Thompson (MF/FW) – 5

An absolute dog as always out there. There’s no one who works harder on this RIFC team and Saturday night was no different. Playing in his 14th position of the season, Amos brought the fight to Charleston. However, while tidy with 91% passing accuracy, Charleston got the better of AST more often than not with only 33% duels won.

JJ Williams (F) – 7

He’s back, folks. This was the JJ Williams that we’ve been missing for long stretches of the season. While the goal will be the highlight on the night, JJ’s runs in behind really stretched the Charleston defense, allowing RIFC to progress the ball.

I know what you’re thinking, 7!?!? While he had the winning moment, there is still more to come from JJ. His passing, dribbling and duel success were all well below his normal output (53%, 20%, 43%, respectively). This is only the start for the main man up top.

Subs

Dwayne Atkinson – 6

Super Sub Busy is back. The Jamaican made his impact felt almost immediately again on Saturday, getting the hockey assist for the lone goal in this one. His energy and desire to go at his defender is electric and paid off for RIFC.

Zachary Herivaux – 5

I loved this cameo from Herivaux. While he only had 7 touches and 3 passes in his 30 minutes on the pitch, his running and pressing really threw off Charleston’s rhythm and didn’t let them get going, especially after our goal.

Joe Brito – N/A

Grant Stoneman – N/A

Rating Scale:

  • 1/10 – Abysmal. You might as well have me on the pitch.
  • 2/10 – Very bad
  • 3/10 – Bad
  • 4/10 – Below Average
  • 5/10 – Average. The player did their job.
  • 6/10 – Good
  • 7/10 – Very good
  • 8/10 – Great
  • 9/10 – Outstanding
  • 10/10 – Transcendent performance. Watch out, because Real Madrid may come knocking.
